5 Things I Didn’t Know About Having a Baby

Back in June, I had a baby, a little girl.  She is my first child.  She was 7 weeks early and spent 12 days in the NICU.  I was hoping to have my latest book, Bite Me, completed before her birth but she had other plans.  In the last 7 weeks (yes, my little girl is ‘term’ today), I have learned many things I did not know about having an infant in the house.

1.) Even when they are asleep, babies keep you busy.  Laundry, bottles, laundry, dishes…did I say laundry?

2.) A baby can sleep through the phone ringing, the television blaring, and two dogs barking right next to her crib but she will wake up if she hears me freaking whispering in the next room.

3.) Breastfeeding is hard work!

4.) Babies can sense when you are about to fall asleep.  Then they like to cry so you have to get out of bed.  Then they laugh at you.

5.) Speaking of laundry (see No. 1), how can something that weighs less than 8 pounds generate so much?!  I wash her stuff more often than I wash stuff for the Love Machine and I combined!

Anyhoo, I love the Little Bit to pieces, even when it’s 3 a.m. and I need toothpicks to keep my eyes open.  I’m also back at work on Bite Me.  Release Day is set for September 17!

Smoochies!

I never understood the laundry thing either. I completely agree with point #2….a jackhammer can be used right next to the crib….but I dare you to open a pack of crackers.
